20th Annual “H. S. Hoops Showdown”

--- Announced ---

Lisle, IL --- The Integrity Group today confirmed the pairings for next season’s “High School Hoops Showdown”.  The nationally known event will move to the beautiful Robert Morris University Athletic & Convocation Center at 2121 S. Goebbert Rd., in Arlington Heights.  The double-header is set for Saturday, January 21, 2017.

Game 1 (6:00 tip-off) features two highly rated teams that have never met previously.  The “Broncos”, from Chicago-Kenwood Academy, return several players from a team that went 22-5 before losing in the Sweet-Sixteen to eventual Class 4A Champion Chicago-Curie 59-57. They will be led by PF Manny Patterson (Sr., 6-8). The “Mustangs” of Downers Grove South (21-10), return three starters and 5 of the 7 top players from their West Suburban Conference-Gold champions.  They’ll be led by G Denis Alibegovic (Sr., 6-3), a Daily Herald DuPage County All-Area selection.

In Game 2 (8:00 tip-off), it’s two of the top pre-season teams in the state as Chicago Heights-Marian Catholic collides with Oak Park-Fenwick.  The 4A “Spartans” (23-6), who lost to Chicago-Simeon Career Academy in the Bloom Sectional, return three starters and a deep rotation of talented players.  They will feature C TeeAaron Powell (Sr., 6-8).  The 3A “Friars” (28-3), the defending Chicago Catholic League Champs return two starters from a team that lost in the Westinghouse Sectional.  They’ll be led by G/F Jamal Nixon (Sr., 6-4) and a group of talented and hard-working teammates.

This year’s double-header produced two competitive games and featured the eventual Player of the Year and two teams (Chicago-Morgan Park and Westchester-St. Joseph) that would make it to the Class 3A Super-Sectionals.  In Game 1, the “Eagles” from Aurora Christian, were able to get past their former Suburban Christian Conference foe, the “Spartans” from Wheaton-St. Francis, by a score of 52-42.  R.D. Lutze and Jake Wolfe paced the winners with 14 pts. each.

In Game 2, it was the #1 ranked “Mustangs” from Chicago-Morgan Park vs. the #9 ranked “Chargers” from Westchester-St. Joseph.  In addition to two highly ranked teams, you had two of the favorites for POY honors in the state in the person of Charlie Moore from Morgan Park/California (who would go on to win the award), and Nick Rakocevic from St. Joseph/USC.  Rakocevic would have the better game with 12 pts. and 12 rbs., but Moore and the Mustangs would win by the score of 65-52.
